Beliefs and responsibility

We all live guided by our beliefs; we do what we believe we can do and do not do what we believe we cannot do. We consider our beliefs to be the result of logical and rational mental processing and therefore correct. In reality, our beliefs originate in the experiences of our prenatal life, from conception, through the DNA inherited from our parents and the epigenetic effects of interaction with the maternal mind and body, and, of course, our childhood, long before the development of our cognitive abilities. These roots are deep, powerful and permanent and we have no awareness of them but it is possible to discover, understand and even overcome their influence. With specific, innovative and powerful techniques it is possible to replace old, counterproductive beliefs with new, favourable and beneficial ones.

Our daily decisions shape our lives but it is the how we manifest our decisions, the what we do that makes the difference between who we are and who we want to be. We are not what we do, but what we do affects us and the quality of our lives is determined by the responsibility we take for what we decide to do or not to do.

Some people believe they are responsible for everything, others think it all depends on someone else, parents, friends, the government or even God. Considering ourselves responsible for our life puts us in a position of choice and thus of freedom, but it is, at the same time, an enormous burden because since no one is omnipotent, no one can be responsible for everything. Attributing responsibility to others helps us to deny personal guilt but it also means giving up our own power, accepting a position of powerlessness and victimhood. Whether we like it or not, any choice we make is our responsibility, even when we delegate others to decide for us. Everything comes from ourselves. Everything is an opportunity or an obstacle to growth. We are the ones to choose. If we believe that things will go well, we will see opportunities, if we believe that they will not go well, we will only see obstacles, and the biggest obstacles are the ones we have built into our heads.

If we so choose, we can discover what our obstacles are and how to overcome them so as to build a life that is truly an expression of who we feel we really are.
